I feel that Mamoru and Shigure from the Fruits Basket manga are very similiar. Do you agree? Why or why not?

To be fair, I can’t say that I’m really that much of an expert on Shigure’s character (since I was pretty much all about Kyou and Tohru in Furuba), but I wouldn’t say they’re that similar? Shigure is much more flighty (if deliberately so, he knew what he was doing) and much more manipulative and willing to be somewhat malicious to achieve his goals. Mamoru, on the other hand, is much more reserved and serious and genuine when interacting with people.

He has a quick wit and says some hilarious things (his deadpan reaction to Usagi talking to her cat while they were on the bus sends me into hysterics every time or when he just lifts Chibi-Usa to toss her over his shoulder while she giggles wildly, just totally playing with her) but he doesn’t have secret agenda like Shigure does. Even when he’s not really on Usagi’s side (like in the Dark Kingdom arc), he’s pretty straightforward about how he’s not sure if he’s their enemy or not. When he figures out who Sailor Moon is, he doesn’t keep that information to himself for long, he reveals himself to her when he takes her back to his apartment, because he’s honest like that.

This isn’t to say that there aren’t shades of grey with both characters, because of course there are! I’m not saying Shigure was coldly manipulative and lying to everyone or that Mamoru was incapable of having an agenda. Just that they didn’t strike me as being similar? I’d be very curious to know why you think they’re similar, though! I’m certainly willing to have my mind changed, if you’re up for discussion.

Anon was me by the way :) I’m definitely up for a discussion on this, since really the whole Shigure being like Mamoru was what inspired me to write my Fruits Basket/Sailor Moon crossover fic.

I mean think about it, both Shigure and Mamoru have that dream about the ones they love, and those dreams each drive them to do whatever it takes to fulfill them, even if it means being the enemy. For me, I felt that that whole dream Shigure had of Akito was a major plot-hole as it never really explained why that dream was so special to him particularly when all the others had the exact same dream as him.

I thought… wait a minute… What if Shigure had actually dreamed something different from everyone else? What if his dream had nothing to do with the curse and something to do with his past life? Why is he so mysterious? And that’s when the idea came to me. The dream was so similar to the one Mamoru had of Serenity in the first season, the fact that it was never explained would also make it extremely easy to cross over the two canons.

Then there was also the line Shigure said back in volume 19, he said how he always felt different from everyone else and how he never even wanted to be/or felt particularly close to his parents. That’s exactly how Mamoru was like before he recovered his memories. So yeah basically, I felt Shigure and Mamoru were so alike and why I feel that Natsuki Takaya actually got inspired by Sailor Moon.

It’s been ages since I read Fruits Basket, so I don’t really remember Shigure’s dream or how similar it was to Mamoru’s dream of Serenity. The trope of having one character have a mysterious dream about someone they can’t quite see is fairly common, even if I do readily agree that Sailor Moon is the most common example I can think of, yeah.

I guess, for me… it’s hard to separate out Shigure’s circumstances (and I think you’re going more for the narrative structure, rather than content of character?) from his characterization, so I keep thinking, “Oh, man, I cannot see Mamoru sleeping with Usagi’s mother just out of spite to get back at her.” But, then, I can’t see Usagi sleeping with anyone else ANYWAY, so. XD

And, of course, Sailor Moon was hugely influential in the mahou shoujo genre but probably in the shoujo-in-general genre, too! It’s entirely possible that Takaya could have been influenced by Sailor Moon!

You should re-read it and then you’ll see what I mean :) Specifically the scene I’m talking about is in volume 3 of the manga. I don’t necessarily agree with you that you don’t think Mamoru would go that far, I think brainwashed Mamoru/Endymion would go that far and considering how much he gets brainwashed, well… XD

Yeah I know Sailor Moon was a major name that was influential to a lot of mangaka/anime and while I hate to be one of those Moonie fans that basically always yell “Every Shojo is a ripoff of Sailor Moon! OMG how dare you copy teh great Sailor Moon!1111” I just really feel that quite honestly a lot of works rip off Sailor Moon and its a little annoying for me. It’s not just that thing in Furuba with Shigure but even entire franchises like Pretty Cure, Tokyo Mew Mew, Mermaid Melody and Wedding Peach rip off Sailor Moon entirely.

Hell, Pretty Cure has basically risen to be Sailor Moon’s sucessor. I don’t know… I just wonder how Naoko Takeuchi-sensei feels about all this.

Why the fuck does this pairing even exist!? Definitely the most fucked up pairing I’ve seen in a while. 0_0 I mean, forget the fact that she’s a full on lesbian and they’ve never met, even their personalities don’t mesh!

SERIOUS POLL How are you celebrating V-Day in terms of ships? Characters are going on fancy dates? Chocolate? Proposals? DO TELL.

Well the other half of my OTP, posted a special shipping message and picture. That’s all I’m gonna get so far though as our characters are very stubborn and would never admit their feelings for each other! lol.

Guys I seriously need help!
My Inuyasha ships

I have three main ships for Inuyasha, I shall give you my reasons why.

1. Inuyasha/Kagome: They’re the star couple of this series, this couple shows what a “real” relationship is like. Unlike Inuyasha/Kikyo, Inuyasha and Kagome isn’t all roses and perfection. It shows the real down and gritty side of relationships and the whole genuine side to it. Inuyasha and Kagome basically behave like an old married couple and that is why I love them. They take care of each other when the other gets hurt, they unconditionally accept everything about the other and they’re not just a couple, they’re also best friends! While Kagome can be annoying at times *coughwhinycough* she truly loves and accepts Inuyasha for who he is and vows to stay by him even while knowing she’s second best. That to me is real love and I just feel Kagome loves him more then Kikyo will or ever did. To me, this couple just fits together so well, like each other’s missing puzzle piece. While Kagome is kind and very gentle, she also has quite a feisty and tempermental side to her. It perfectly matches Inuyasha’s personality, I think he’d feel bottled up if he had to be with someone that’s as calm and serene and  just so cold like Kikyo is.

2. Inutaisho/Sesshomaru: Now this is probably one of the most uncommon ships ever heard of but really I just do not understand why Inuyasha/Sesshomaru is more popular then this pairing! I mean, this one actually makes sense and fits into the canon, unlike Inuyasha/Sesshomaru. I also honestly feel that this is the most canon of the Sesshomaru pairings. I mean think about it! Everything Sesshomaru does for the duration of the series is fueled by his obsession with his father, he seems to have an unnatural hatred for both Inuyasha and Izayoi while his mother is totally okay with it! He also shows the most emotion in the entire series when Shishinki taunts him about his father hating him and when he learns the true purpose of Tessaiga. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sesshomaru look so hurt, dejected and angry any time in the series then during that time! Even during Rin’s and Kagura’s deaths he didn’t show half as much emotion as he does when the subject of his father is brought up. And of course there’s the 3rd movie, and yes I consider that canon because Rumiko Takahashi was involved with it, so yes its canon to me! Really, if anything I think Sesshomaru at least had an unrequited love for his father.

3. Miroku/Sango: I think this couple is pretty much self-explanatory, I mean who DOESN’T ship these two together? They’re so perfect for each other and there’s no one else to really go with either of them.

So yeah, those are my Inuyasha OTPs, if you disagree with me then come at me bro, I don’t care. Oh you should know though that part of the reason I ship InuKag and InuTSessh is because I don’t really like Kikyo and Rin. They’re my two least favorite characters in the entire series!  I think they’re both really Sueish characters and I hate how they’re portrayed as so “perfect” and shit. Also, they’re both necrophilia and pedophilia which absolutely disgusts me and which I don’t support. The relationships are too easy too, real relationships take work and have hardships.

So yeah, to sum it up.

All my feelings!

Whenever I see support for InuKag

Whenever I see support for InuKik

Reblogging for the Team Necrophilia thing. LMAO.

You know its true! That’s basically what “Team Kikyo” is supporting! ^_-
